Will She Or Won't She...

Sarah Palin is the only person alive who can guarantee Obama a second term. While I like her personally, I don't think she has any chance of winning the presidency. The reason? Independents can't stand her and you need Independents to win general elections. I honestly think her candidacy would be a nightmare scenario for conservatives. There are simply better candidates with far less baggage.

I know many on this board will disagree with my assessment, but I just want what is best for the conservative movement and I don't think that is a Palin candidacy. I'm open to your opinions on this. Convince me I'm wrong!

I for one, absolutely agree with you. My skin crawls every time I hear her candidacy discussed. Like you, I don't think she could win, but I think almost any other Republican could.

With the exception of Palin, Jim DeMint & Mike Pence, the rest of the boneheads being considered are in too tight with the "ruling class" GOP establishment which wants to compromise with Obama & the Democrats. Unless Palin, DeMint, or Pence run, I'll be utilizing the write in option. To hell with the GOP "ruling class" establishment & their preferred candidates. I'll write in a vote for GOD before voting for anyone the establishment sends up there. The GOP establishment along with Barack Obama & the Democrats got us in the fix we're in as a nation. I'll be damned if I'm going to vote to further the GOP establishment's goals in any way, shape, or form.

I actually agree with you... and no matter how much we may love a relate to her, she is still and will always be a politician.

I think she'd be a good President and a strong leader, but I tend to think she's unelectable. I can't deny that she's a fighter who's been underestimated her entire public life, so I won't say she can't win. People I don't think can win include Newt Gingrich, Mike Huckabee, and Mitt Romney. Why the media keeps harping on these warmed over retreads is beyond me, unless they want to insure a loser.

Herb Tarlek, you win the prize for hitting the nail on the head. The last sentence of your post sums up exactly why the media fawns all over certain Republicans. If the media & the GOP establishment pick the next contender for POTUS we're ensured four more years of Barack Obama. Guaranteed.

While I agree with much of your assessment, Chuck, I am reminded that many said the same thing about Reagan. That said, of course she's no Reagan. But she does appear genuine and I appreciate that. And her supporters are most fervent. Unfortunately, so are her detractors -- though the media has had much to do with that. In the end, it'll probably be too much for her to overcome, because she is far too polarizing -- at least right now. I say that because a lot can change in one year when the campaigh really heats up. I hope the economy turns the corner soon, but with Obama obviously in over his head, who really knows? I mean really?!? He actually seems like he's going to double down on his agenda. And with things ratcheting up (a Spain bail-out on the horizon, the N. Korean attack today), there's too much uncertainty to know how history plays out before 2012. If Obama doesn't take us down the tubes, I can see Palin as an effective hired gun aka fundraiser. Let's just hope we make it that far and have other Conservative candidates in the mix. Sorry about my ramble city.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Let me be clear. The fact that I don't want Palin to run does not mean I would support an establishment candidate. Quite the opposite. The two candidates that I'd like to see run and would support are DeMint and Pence. There are probably others, but those are the two that I think are most likely to run. This is about what is best for the country in my view. Her candidacy makes it much too likely that Democrats could galvanize Independent support around Obama.

I perfectly agree with you. We need someone with more than courage and even correct ideas on policy. They must be able to argue their positions at length to the public and win them over. It is said of Lincoln that when you watched him speak, his voice and odd mannerisms were a distraction, but his arguments were simply irresistible. I don't think Sarah Palin, as good a person as she is, will be able to craft such arguments.

The Democrat message will be that all will be well shortly. No hard decisions need to be made. Who ever runs against that will have to tell the truth to be in a position to make the necessary policy changes. People might prefer to believe the fantasy. Any Lincolns out there?

Until recently, I agreed with you. She has made real progress in promoting herself to conservatives since she broke free of the control of the McCain campaign. The people who dislike her are liberals and rinos.

If her negatives(media induced) go down enough in the next year and allow her to be electable, I'm sure her cabinet and staff would be a conservative "dream team".

A female Ronald Reagan? I doubt it, but she could be. She could be !

PALIN WOULD NOT WIN!! Move on...

November 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterDano

If Sarah Palin is the nominee for the GOP/Tea Party she would be the MSM fantasy candidate to be crucified on the alter of public opinion. The hatred and vitriol these cowards on the left have for her personally and professionally is unfathomable to a normal thinking person. She should consider running for the chairmanship of the RNC. She would have a greater impact on the party which needs to move back to its conservative roots pronto.

She would be defeated in 2012 for the POTUS, regardless, the conservatives will own the House and the Senate after 2012 election

November 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterHoleinthehull

You are correct, independents (like me) will not vote for her.

November 24, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterthe dude

I totally agree w/ you Pundit. In the beginning I really liked her, but now I'm sick of the over exposure of her. I really believe that she has been enchanted by the fame and attention that surrounds her. I think she has a false high impression of herself. I appreciate her cheerleading tendancies, but as a candidate, I will not vote for her. I was really disappointed w/ the promotion of her 'reality' tv show. That did it for me. I'm a conservative and have ceased to be entranced by her. She's nothing but a typical political machine in my eyes. I also don't know why the GOP keeps propping up people like Newt, and Romney. They obviously show they aren't listening to the people either. We want fresh, new blood. In my dreams I hope for a Paul Ryan/Allan West/Christie/Rubio (any of these are interchangeable for Pres/VP) ticket. But I don't see that happening. So no, I don't care for Palin nor do I believe she could beat the deadbeat that is currently our president.

November 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterThe Lipstick Wrangler

I believe that at this time Palin is too much of a "lightning rod" (too polarizing) to be successful in defeating Obama. There is clearly a love/hate reaction to her, and little or nothing in between. I agree with prior positions stated that she would be ideal for the MSM and they'd focus so much attention on her negatives.
Like it or not, the presidential election process has become a popularity contest and is not so much about the candidates proposed policies but rather their "star" status. Overlooked in the last election were Obama's lack of experience, and who he chummed around with. Racial "guilt" caused many independents to side with him and disregard his negatives.
Clearly, we need another Ronald Reagan. If only Newt didn't have so much personal baggage I'd think that he would be our best hope.

November 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterBruce

Every time I see a republican say "Palin 2010", I'm shouting NOOOOOOOOOOO! That will kill our chances.
She turned herself into a joke in the eyes many people. I think they would sooner vote for Tina Fey as Sarah Palin for president.

November 24, 2010 | Unregistered Commentersideburns

I think that Sarah Palin would be orders of magnitude better than the current nincompoop in chief. She has a lot of good solid conservative ideas and she clearly loves America. She is the antethesis of Oblowme. That being said, and as much as I love and admire Sarah, I think that she is a much more effective spokesman (spokeswoman) for the conservative cause if she remains a private citizen. The media has the long knives out and they can't wait to paint her as a female Hitler (they already have!).
One point of contention - people are always talking about her high negatives. Obama has high negatives because he is a complete fucking idiot and he is destroying the country. And the media still keep polishing this turd. Sarah Palin has high negatives only because of the media onslaught, not because of anything heinous she had done. Ask a liberal what they hate about Palin and the usual answer is 'everything', i..e. nothing specific, just the nebulous everything. Her high negatives are almost entirely media manufactured innuendo. But ask me what I hate about Obama, I will also say 'everything', and then give you point by point specifics about why the magic Kenyan is an unmitigated disaster.

@ the dude:

Does that mean independents like you would vote again for Obama (over Palin) or would you vote for a third party?

November 24, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterz7e1r3o

That question could be to any independent really, not limited to "the dude."

November 24, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterz7e1r3o

Here i've been sending my donations to Sarah/Pac, how dumb i must be, after all myself
with many others thought she along did more to bring conservatism back to America then
anyone else in the Republican Party....The Tea Party was great and will continue a major
force in politics and who drivers the Tea Party, Let me guess, " Meagan McCain." right....

Now since we have kicked Governor Palin to the curb, lets all go out and see if we can
find the perfect candidate to run against Barack Insane Obama and the liberal Progressive
Machine we have in Washington.....Please look and select our man/women with the same
determination we used to find Johnny boy McCain and we will have a shoe in for President...

It's been fun Pundit, have a nice Thanksgiving to you and all our PDS fans.......
