Stop by Newsbusters.org if you get a chance today. Look at the litany of stories that involve mainstream media types absolutely lying through their teeth in an effort to prop up Obama and the Democrats.
As Obama's fortunes continue to decline, they have clearly decided it's time to circle the wagons and ramp up the assault on enemy one: The Tea Party.
The problem is, it's having the desired effect. In a recent NY Times/CBS News Poll cited by Fox News this morning, 47% of the public disapproved of the way Obama handled the debt ceiling debate, while 66% disapproved of the way Congressional Democrats handled it. However, 72% disapproved of the way Congressional Republicans handled the debate. I realize it's the Times and CBS, but even still, shouldn't those numbers be reversed? Obama and the Democrats didn't even produce a plan! Even worse, only 20% of the public now have a positive opinion of the Tea Party movement.
What makes these numbers all the more curious is that numerous polls showed that the public overwhelmingly supported the primary tenet of the GOP position - tying a debt ceiling increase to spending cuts. We can argue over whether the debt deal was good, bad or awful, but the GOP was clearly negotiating from a position that the vast majority of Americans agreed with. Yet, they are now viewed as the offending party by nearly 3/4's of the public?
How does this happen?
Simple. The non-stop, slanderous, deceitful onslaught of our friends in the American Mainstream Media. The press has spent more than a year piling on the Tea Party movement at every turn. They know if the movement were allowed to fully flower, it would completely neuter the life blood of liberalism - government spending - and they clearly aren't about to let that happen. So they go to the old liberal journalist playbook; discredit the enemy with a theme that makes them seem unreasonable, stupid, racist, etc.
This tactic is still impactful in certain quarters, but conservatives have long since become wise to the media's deceptions. I listened to several hours of talk radio last week and I've never heard so much frustration about media corruption and its impact on our politics and nation.
The question is, what to do about it? We simply can't allow it to continue. We're nothing more than a punching bag for these Leftist hacks. Isn't it time to punch back? If a stock broker can go to jail for insider trading, why shouldn't a journalist face the same outcome for spreading a known falsehood to advance an agenda?
For too long, conservatives have simply accepted the fact that there is a liberal bias. I think it's time to discuss how we can change that reality. The prospect of facing jail time may be just the elixir to force these so called "journalists" to change.
Nothing else has worked.
