Barack and Michelle Obama are elitists. Many of us believed that, but the unequivocal proof came this week in the form of an opulent Spanish vacation.
I would never begrudge a President and his family vacation time. Everyone needs to recharge the batteries. However, given the difficulties millions of Americans currently face, you would think that a reserved domestic vacation would have been in order. You know, keep it simple and low-key so as not to rub people's noses in an extravagant trip.
Well, that didn't seem to bother our First Lady. No, she decided to holiday at one of the most exclusive resorts in all of Europe and bring a traveling troupe of some 40 people along with her. The fact that she decided to take such an obnoxiously expensive trip, in such a bad economy and on the backs of the taxpayers no less, only serves to show the level of contempt for which she must hold her fellow citizens.
When you consider that unemployment remains at a generational high, and that the economy continues to flounder, the trip seems a dubious choice at best. At its worst, it's a slap in the face to every unemployed American.
However, the thing that strikes me particularly odd about the trip is that she was no doubt counseled by White House image makers to avoid such an extravagant vacation in light of the nations financial difficulties. A moron could have foreseen the negative optics this trip would produce. I'd bet my house that someone inside the WH mentioned that it would be a bad idea to jet to the most exclusive resort in Spain at a cost of 375,000 taxpayer dollars when 14.6 million people are looking for work.
The fact that she went anyway not only shows the level of contempt she must have for her fellow citizens, but it also shows where she must see herself in relation to them.

amount of $375.000...Here at home our illustrious and distinguished Brown Clown was
racking up frequent liar miles and continuing to steal America blind while telling every
person he saw what a good job he was doing and how much better we are off in his
attempt at saving America..
God i am proud he feels our pain and the First Un-lady is so thoughtful that she must be so
deserving of this honor...

Now, now... she needed a relaxing vacation because the other 7 she took this summer just wore her out.
Her vacation just happened to coinside with the prez's birthday. Makes me go 'hmmm'. Maybe he was too busy playing golf to want to celebrate it with his family. Maybe she's as tired of him as the rest of us.
This will have ramifications far into the future. The stupidity of this trip is what I do not understand. I agree with your assessment Pundit that someone in the WH must have tried to stop this trip based on the visual it would create. The American public already holds this President in low regard and this will do nothing to help the personal side of that. From my standpoint, I hope they continue this vacation jet-setting. It will help insure their future drubbing at the polls.
I'm with Monte Hall. This plays right into conservatives hands. We couldn't write a script that made them look any worse. Even the press is having a hard time defending this lavish vacation. Most aren't even trying.

Well, the Obama's have done in 18 months what the republican party has been trying to do for years... maimed the democrat party.
They are both arrogant communist dirtbag subversive. He is a Manchurian President that needs to be stopped at all costs. And they are raising little communist radicals that must not be permitted to hold any public office whether elected or appointed. We need to annihilate, utterly destroy and kill the democrat (intentional lower case) party for good. It is completely filled with communists, fascists, progressive/liberals, radicals, revolutionaries, traitors and generally disgusting parasites that want to destroy the United States.
We face more serious threat to our long term well being from the COMMUNIST SCUM than we do from the muslims. Although muslims may kill, possibly even in very large nubers, theirs is almost no chance they can destroy our system of governing the country. However, the filthy lowlife radical communists (Like The Scumbag In Chief, Obama) are quickly doing just that. They are parasites eating the very heart of the country. RetiredSailor1 , when the financial crisis hit in Sept. O8 Bush canceled a trip much less extravagant because he did not think it wise to show frivolous while we were suffering. As stated in the article, the douche thought nothing of doing just that.

Monte Hall and Apple Jack, I was just telling my friend about three weeks ago that the Scumbag in Chief will singlehandedly destroy the democrat party (democrat is always intentionally lower case). The entire elected leadership of the party is delusional, believing they have a massive mandate from the people of this country to transform it into the Soviet Union West. It will be their complete undoing. They are through. Can you imagine the questions democrat candidates will have to answer unequivocally just to be viable? Like: Are you now, or have you ever been, a member of the communist party? Or: If elected will you bow to leaders of muslim countries? Or: Do you plan on serving the people or ruling by decree?
