The media was at best disingenuous by even mentioning either "conservative" or "centrist" when describing either of Obama's nominees. Both are clearly left leaning, and their relative youth will impact the SCOTUS for years and years to come.
Best that can be said is that they replace like minded members of the court, so at least for now the balance of the court is unchanged.
