Scarborough, The GOP Hatchet Man

(FLP Opinion) - Following is a typical aside from Joe Scarborough on his Morning Joe show:

"And I tell you what, bipartisanship is more discouraged than ever before. If you do anything to help out President Obama, you're not a good Republican. If you do anything to help out a Republican with a good idea, you're not a good Democrat. And you know, it's the idiots on both sides, and I'm sorry, that's what they are - idiots, they're ignorant of history that will say, 'Oh, this is the first time...', no, it happens every four years now. A new president comes in and the other party tries to delegitimize him... Right now it's just a food fight with children on both sides."

Joe Scarborough, Morning Joe - 2/18/10

Let's read between the lines shall we? Obama is largely in trouble because the Republicans have demonized him and refused to work with him. No, it's not Obama's policies and spending that have turned people off, it's those shameless Republicans who have worked to de-legitimize him.

While the quote may seem fairly innocuous, it is not. He uses this type of subtle swipe throughout his show to prop up Democratic positions. Think about it, the GOP has been locked out of virtually every Health Care, Stimulus and Cap & Trade discussion by the Democrats. Think that might have been worth a mention in that little diatribe?

Scarborough is the worst kind of demagogue because he claims to be something that he clearly no longer is in an effort to make his criticism of that thing much more impactful. To put it more simply, he claims to be a conservative Republican but spends three hours every day killing the GOP. He really is nothing more than a mouthpiece for the Left, but unlike Olbermann, Maddow or Mathews, he doesn't admit to being a liberal - he claims to be the opposite.

Please.

While I completely understand how Scarborough could have become disillusioned with the GOP based on their governance between 2002 thru 2006, I have a much harder time rationalizing how a 'true' conservative can still have such vitriol for the party. I mean, the GOP has stood firm against socialized medicine, cap & trade, the stimulus bill and out-of-control spending in general. He should be lauding the GOP for standing up for middle America, but instead he frequently uses their past transgressions to boost and justify current Democratic positions.

Some may wonder why I watch the show at all if I find Scarborough so unappealing. The truth is they generally have a number of good political interviews each day and a fairly even mix of liberal to conservative talking heads.

If Joe would just quit carrying water for the leftists, everything would be right with that world.

And if I hit the lottery, I'd be rich. Neither will happen.

I watch this show on and off. I totally agree with your assessment of Scarborough. He seems to go out of his way to justify bad things Democrats do by comparing it to similar bad things that Republicans did. I get very aggravated watching him some days.

Remember....Joe Scarborough was a Congressman. A group, of which, 90% will sell their soul to keep their job.

He decided to hitch his wagon to a dying mule. If he had enough integrity, he could have started his own radio gig, but who wants to listen to someone who, next week, will be arguing with what he said this week.

Look Joe, President O' bozo didn't need any help in delegitimizing himself, he did it all by himself with no birth certificate, no school records or health records...What does the American people know about
this clown, Nada, zilch, nothing...As a matter of fact, this guy is missing in action...
