The Party Of The Single Issue Voter

(FLP Opinion) - Over the last 45 years, the Democratic Party has become a party dominated by single issue voters. It's the source of their power. They utilize controversial wedge issues to convince voters that the part is more important than the whole.

Here are a few examples:

  • Homosexuals - Gay Marriage
  • Hispanics - Immigration Reform
  • Feminists - Abortion
  • African Americans - Race Relations
  • Environmentalists - Clean Energy & Global Warming

We know that many of the people that fall into these groups are pure single issue voters. Nothing else matters. The country could going broke and in dire need of new fiscal leadership (which it is), but these people would likely stick to their one issue in determining whom to vote for.

Conversely, Republicans typically draw more conservative voters who support candidates for a wide range of reasons including national defense, fiscal discipline, low taxes, etc. While it's true that some conservatives do vote on the abortion issue alone, they are far fewer in number than those single issue Democrats.

Haven't we reached a point in this country where the whole of what the candidate stands for is far more important than any one issue. Let's face it, if things don't break just right in the near future, we could find ourselves with a collapsed currency, twenty trillion in debt, empty grocery shelves and a broken Republic.

Just how unimportant would issues like gay marriage or global warming seem if that came to fruition?

Serious times call for serious voters. People that support candidates based on such frivolous issues clearly don't understand the gravity of the situation in which we find ourselves.

That will soon change.

Totally agree with your assessment. Democrats are generally a vote wasted on a bullsh*t, selfish issue. They may be our downfall.

I think these single issue voters (Democrats) are about to get hit right in the mouth. They live in la-la land and we're headed for do-do land. My guess is they'll have a tough time coming to grips with reality.

There is nothing serious about most Democrats. They're... how do you say? Morons?

You say Democrats are single issue voters? What about the conservative rednecks that vote on the gun issue or abortion? I think the GOP drives far more wedges than the Democrats.

Own it.

Terry, There is no conservative issue when it comes to guns. The Constitution gives everyone the right to own a gun. However there is a liberal issue in trying to deny that right. Please read "The Declaration of Arms" to see why this is important. I think it was written in 1775.

Abortion is just wrong, and most conservatives believe that, so it is not as much a "single issue" issue as you might think. I agree that the behavior of some tend to be a little extreme when it comes to stopping abortions, but that exist with those who would like to see more abortions also.

I don't understand why you use the term "redneck" like it's a bad thing.

Totally agree HB. Redneck is an endearing term that means your a southern capitalist who loves America. I certainly have no problem with that. Terry is showing all of the signs of liberal in moderate clothing, though there isn't much difference in the two is there?

Terry, I do feel that you might assume to much, after all, i've always been told when you assume, it makes an a** out of you and me...Let up a little and enjoy what we have, you don't have to agree on
our issues, but you do have to respect, we have the right to express our personal feelings....
We win some and we lose some, we will never surrender the middle to any cause.....
