Intent Of 2nd Amendment Is Crystal Clear

(FLP Opinion) - Though the Obama Administration has left the gun rights issue alone to date, you know they are just dying to figure out some way to make an impact - and not in a positive way. The tragic shooting yesterday in Las Vegas could provide them with some additional impetus.

I always find it amusing when the left debates the true intent of the 2nd Amendment. You don't have to look very far to determine exactly what the Founding Fathers intended.

"A free people ought to be armed." - George Washington

"The said Constitution shall never be construed to authorize congress to prevent the people of the United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms." - Samuel Adams

"The great object is that every man is armed. Everyone who is able may have a gun." - Patrick Henry

"Americans need never fear their government because of the advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation." - James Madison

"To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them."  - Richard Henry Lee

"To disarm the people is the most effectual way to enslave them." - George Mason

"No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain their right to keep and bear arms is as a last resort to protect themselves against tyranny in government."  - Thomas Jefferson

"Arms in the hands of citizens may be used at individual discretion in private self defense." -John Adams

Not much ambiguity in those statements is there?

Ben Franklin famously penned a letter to future generations of Americans that said, "we gave you a republic, if you can keep it." With the far left working so hard to destroy what took 244 years to build, that becomes less a certainty everyday.

Great article. There is absolutely no ambiguity whatsoever as to where the Founders stood on this issue. Why the need for this to ever go to trial? These quotes say it all.

It may not take many more gun control laws to make the freedom loving Americans turn
their gun over to our government, but not in the directions they require..
Lock and Load my friends for time is running close.......

I spend most of my time trying to push my liberal friends towards gun ownership. With less than 40% of Americans believing in evolution, I can't imagine feeling safe at the thought of only Republicans owning guns.

After 8 years of anti-Bush rallies, I can't remember once seeing an assault rifle at any of them. I guess Liberals are willing to have a debate without resorting to intimidation.

Except for SEIU beating people and chewing off fingers.

Yeah Garland, lefties like the Communists, Nazis and Fascists have always been known for their kid glove treatment of citizens. No intimidation there whatsoever.

Hey Gar, how about your black panther buddies at the polls in Philadelphia? Oh yeah, your buddy Holder wiped it away so I guess it didn't happen. How does voter intimidation rate up there with your liberal principals? One nut case shows up in public with a gun and you use it to smear over 50% of the country? (Yes, over 50% of the US identifies themselves as at least somewhat conservative). I'm glad to debate, bring some better material next time.
