Obama Administration Makes Another Stupid Decision
Sunday, January 3, 2010 at 10:28AM (FLP Opinion) - It seems dumb decisions grow on trees outside the White House. Consider their latest genius move:
A man named Abdul Mutallab attempts to blow up a plane and is stopped by fellow passengers as the explosive device burns in his lap. When the plane lands he is taken into custody and proceeds to chirp like a songbird about his involvement with Al Qaeda, training camps in Yemen and future terror attacks that are planned from that location.
And then...... nothing.
What happened? The Obama Administration decided, once again, to try a known terrorist as a criminal defendant instead of as a military combatant, which allowed him the benefit of a lawyer and the right to remain silent. Not surprisingly, he quickly went from chirping songbird to deaf mute on advice of his attorney.
Had they tried him as an enemy combatant they could have continued questioning him with no attorneys present and used advanced interrogation techniques to ply timely, actionable intelligence from him before Al Qaeda had the opportunity to change plans, move training camps, etc.
On what planet does a decision like this make sense? Isn't this dangerous and foolish beyond all comprehension?
Even more stunning, John Brennan the Deputy National Security Advisor for Homeland Security, suggested this morning on Fox News Sunday that we are now in a stronger position to gather intelligence from the suspect because we can work with his lawyers to cut deals for information.
Let's see, working through defense attorneys to glean intelligence or talking directly to the terrorist with a myriad of interrogation techniques at your disposal. What would the Vegas odds be on getting more timely information through the defense attorneys? 1,000,000 to 1? That's probably too low, but that is where the Obama Administration has placed their bet on the behalf of us all.
Just more proof why you don't let morons place your bets. I guess elections really do have consequences, huh?

This administration will go down as the worst in our history. Hopefully, it will make Americans think long and hard before they elect left wing whack jobs like this again.
Saw this interview this morning. What a freaking clown. I can't believe what we have running our country.
I'd suggest you change the title from "Obama Administration Makes Another Stupid Decision" to "Idiot Obama - More Of The Same".
The fact that you turn this guy over to the criminal justice system before you have milked him for every ounce of information he might have, is criminal itself. These idiots will pay for these moronic decisions. I just hope we don't all pay with them.
Yeah, this just flies in the face of common sense. It's just a crazy policy that not only hangs them, but us out to dry. We've got to get rid of these idiots sooner than later.
What they've done really does defy all logic, but these people are true believers. I just don't know think that what they believe in is conducive with American greatness.
The bad decisions these morons are side effects from all the majic mushrooms and the shrooms will no doubt leave side effects on America....How can so many people, be so Damn stupid?? oh, well considering they are all liberal democrats,no big deal on their part....O bambam fix America, step down and let a real man be in charge... Ms Palin what are you doing the next three years.......
This little diatribe is absolutely comical.
What can't you people comprehend about someone having the right to an attorney when committing a crime or illegal act WITHIN the United States, and therefore, being granted the opportunity to have a lawyer? This is what the LAW states in this country. You have a right to an attorney, no matter what you have done. Again, if this happens in America, they should be allowed to be defended in America. Whereas, if a crime is committed in Pakistan, for example, they have to deal with the Pakistani government and court system. Hell, that's how it is in all the different US states, too. If you commit a crime in Florida, and you flee to Tennessee, they extradite you back to Florida to stand trial and face whatever punishment that court system gives you. That's how it works. Plus, it's not like the attorney is taking him in the backroom giving him secret advice that nobody knows about to get him out of what he will say. He is being told what he can do under the court of law, and he has been read his rights, as well. It's everything he probably already knows.
And, after all the travesties that came from illegal torture, you people STILL want to do the advanced interrogation AKA torture? The ones that barely worked after hundreds of times doing it on 3 people? I'd love to know the Vegas odds on that one. What are you going to do if he doesn't tell us what we want to hear? Slap him over the head? Hit him with a steel pipe? Rip his finger nails off? Break his legs? Put him in a small cage with a poisonous rat? All of those things, including, asking him point blank, looking him in the eye won't do it, either. No matter what you do, it's not going to work with many terrorists. They have nothing to lose... many of them would rather die than squeal. Yeah, what a great disposal of techniques. Genius, I tell you. Even after all that, you could get some information, and it might be absolutely wrong because the terrorist would just want a way to get out of being tortured. With an attorney, they can bargain and get as much information as possible, even though, it might not be everything we wanted, but at least it was done without abuse.
And where are the consequences from this? Oh, yeah, we decided to finally obey the law. Yeah, that pesky little thing called the law... how could obama do it?
leave this one to me, guys. kevin, you are so unbelievably stupid, its mind-blowing. this person is an enemy combatant belonging to the group our military is currently trying to hunt down and kill (al-qaeda). these rights you speak of apply to AMERICAN CITIZENS, NOT ISLAMIC TERRORISTS.
Your paragraph on torture is the most idiotic thing i've ever seen. In one sentence, you say no amount of torture will work because the terrorist would rather die than talk. Then you say that with an attorney and the power of bargaining, somehow that will get some information out of him? And at least there was no abuse? I honestly hope some of your family members die in the next terrorist attack....maybe that'll change your tune a bit, dumbass.
In closing, there is nothing comical about how incredibly clueless liberals like you are. Obama? Following the law??? I dont think the law allows bribing senators with billions of taxpayer dollars for votes.
Kevin
First KSM was caught in Pakistan. Second these people are not even covered under the Geneva Convention, and no the attorney is not taking him to a back room to make out a secret deal he doesn't have to he can shamelessly tell his client to not speak at all that is his AMERICAN right now.
As for parroting that old liberal line that torture doesn't work go and look at what the itelligence briefings have said about KSM, he went from not talking at all to our number 1 source for info on terrorist organizations. As for the line that this is how the law works, nope sorry wrong once again buddy we have been putting enemy combatants in military tribunals since this country was founded, heck "Saint FDR" did it as well. tell crunk i said hi
