The Big Myth

(FLP Opinion by JAR) - There’s a big myth portrayed in the mainstream media that may be exposed in coming elections. The myth is this: Conservatives are intolerant bigots who generally do not support women, minority or homosexual candidates.

There is of course a long list of presidential appointees and elected representatives that prove this notion a fallacy, however, inconvenient facts and a liberal reporter are soon parted.

The truth is that the most important issues to conservatives are limited government, low taxes, and fiscal responsibility. A true conservative could generally care less about anything else as long as the candidate stands strong on these core principles. Not surprisingly, the abandonment of said principles is what led to the downfall of the Republican Party, and the rise of the Tea Party movement.

If Republicans want to win, they will must rebuild the brand around a strong conservative foundation, and turn away from those in the party who consistently seek middle ground where none exists. The candidate who best reflects these values is who Conservatives will support.

A decision based on any other merits is foolish and self-defeating. After the beating the Right has taken in the last two elections, I think the lesson has been learned.

While I agree with the principles expressed, we're often faced with the lesser of two evils (e.g. McCain or Obama). Certainly the vetting process to arrive at the ultimate candidate within the GOP should follow the principles set forth; in real life usually isn't that simple. "Electability" is a factor that must be addressed.

Electability is important, but I'd almost rather lose than have a Susan Collins represent me. That said, they are going to help stop this Health Care monstrosity if Brown loses.

The key to real long-term GOP growth is to expand the percentage of blacks and hispanics who are conservative. This may be the best opportunity we have ever seen.

Our conservative principles had a relapse the last few years and we fell into a deep sleep..The
Liberals kicked our rearends all the way to the Whitehouse.. We got our heads out of the sand and the blinders are off and best we never get ourselves in this position again..The Democrats just gave us a quick reminder how fast they can screw up America and how quick history will reverse itself....
Never give up.never give in and never again....
