Media Takes Aim At GOP Move Right

(FLP Opinion) - As the GOP lurches right, thanks to a firm kick in the pants from the Tea Party movement, the mainstream media is working hard to discredit the repositioned Republican Party.

One strategy, an oldie but goodie, is to discredit the repositioned party as being filled with backward yokels and religious zealots who are out-of-touch with reality. The other is to constantly lament the fact that Republicans can't win without a bigger, more moderate tent.

In reality, a moderate Republican Party creates a winning scenario for Democrats. We've seen that movie before haven't we (Dole, McCain, Bush 41). The more moderate the GOP, the more difficult it is to draw clear lines of distinction between the socialist policies of the Democrats and the conservative, free market policies of the Republicans. Hence the constant refrain from the media for the GOP to moderate - it helps Democrats!

If Republicans continue their back to basics resurgence and build upon the foundation that Ronald Reagan created, they will be marching toward potentially historic gains in the House and Senate in 2010. If they vacillate, they do nothing more than let Democrats back in the game and risk the possibility of the Tea Party movement fielding candidates against it, which would be disastrous for Republicans and Conservatives alike.

The winning choice couldn't be more clear. If the leadership of the GOP doesn't see that, we need to find new leaders - yesterday.

Totally agree with the point you make here. The media goads the GOP to moderate, they do and then get their doors blown off in the election. Bring back the Reagan Revolution!

Good, common sense analysis. I'm optimistic that they have gotten the message this time. Moderation at this time (or any other) is suicide for the GOP.

I hope you're right about the move right. I'm not convinced yet, though I don't see as they have a choice. The media will spend day and night trying to discredit the party. It's their only choice, Obama is in such tough shape, they have to make the alternative even worse.

I think you nailed it Pundit. By the way, I'm now a loyal daily reader. You've written some very insightful stuff in the last few weeks and you generally put a humorous twist on it. Great stuff - I'm spreading the word on your behalf! Keep it up.

Keep up the good work, FL. Pundit

Evidently the MSM (or LSM if you're Bernie Goldberg) is cutting us a little slack. At least they have yet to repeat Senator Whitehouse's description of us as a bunch of Aryans.

I agree with your premise. The GOP must move to the right. Otherwise a 3rd party will split the majority of America and let the Dem's stay in office.
