Voter Competence Big Problem Moving Forward

(FLP Opinion) - One issue that gives me great cause for concern about this nations future is the American electorate, or more specifically, the ignorance of said electorate.

No one would argue that Americans are vastly more familiar with celebrity scandals or football than they are with current events or politics. The election of a completely unvetted, inexperienced, one-term Senator named Barrack Obama is evidence of that.

I know that ill-informed voters are nothing new - they were no doubt casting ballots for Stephen Douglass when he ran against Lincoln - but in the seemingly huge percentages we see today? I hardly think so.

We test for proficiency in any number of professional endeavors, from massage therapists, to teachers, to computer technicians. However, if you'd like to vote for the next leader of the free world, it's come one moron, come all!

Think about the absurdity of this. Did we really ask men and women to lay down their lives in battle so uninformed illiterates by the millions could cancel out the votes of thoughtful, responsible citizens? In doing so, don't we bring dishonor to their sacrifice?

Of course we do.

The right to freely elect our representatives is among our most sacred as Americans. To ensure that right is appropriately respected, I suggest a proficiency test be created for all voters. This test would quickly identify persons who were too dense, lazy or irresponsible to have done a cursory review of the election and nullify their right to vote.

This change would serve to greatly increase the IQ of the American electorate and almost certainly result in a sharp move to the right politically... which is exactly why it will never become law.

Illiterate Voters = More Democrats. The Left is keenly aware of this reality and would do practically anything to insure its survival.

At least they're consistent - politics before country.

Great article Pundit. I've long believed this has been a mighty contributor to our downfall. Just look at the documentary film done last year after the election. 9 of 10 Obama voters couldn't answer the most basic of civics questions.

It's freaking scary that their vote counts as much as mine.

You are 100% correct. This is a problem that needs to be addressed, but never will be because of the Democrats. They sold this country out long ago and they are just piling on now.

You need to send this around to other blogs. Haven't seen this written about and it is a critically important issue as we go forward. Look at how ACORN and SEIU could play into this.

Right, write on. A majority of the people do not know what their candidate stands for or anything about their background.

This is precisely the reason we (Sauk Valley Teaparty) are sponsoring a "Voter Education Forum" in our area (Dixon, IL) next month. We've invited all candidates, regardless of party, to attend. We've also asked that they allow us to video them answering questions we gave them in advance, and we plan to post the videos on youtube. Let's hope some of our voters actually want to learn about the candidates! Keep your fingers crossed for us!

That's great Kelly! We need to weed the system of as many morons as possible. They vote for Democrats in extremely high percentages.

Very good article. However, experience in office is not the problem. Look at Bush. He was experienced and his lineage speaks to competency. He was a complete blunder and waste of a crucial period in this nation's preparation for what was already known to be inevitable. He was elected by a group of Republicans that could not see manipulation written on the wall. 25 years ago, we knew by virtue of think tanks that these bubbles were going to burst. The reset button was not supposed to drag down all of GM and Banking but it was known to have been a possibility. I am a Republican and I know who and what I am voting for. But the self serving morons that we have to choose from on all sides of the party line offer very little in the way of sound choice. We all find ourselves voting for the crap shot, best bet.
