What If The Media Had A Conservative Bias?

(FLP Opinion) - Let's pretend for a moment that the media did not have a left-wing bias. In fact, let's assume it had a long-term, right-wing bias that heavily favored conservative politicians and causes. (I know, it's a reach.)

What would this country look like?

Currently, 40% of Americans identify themselves as conservative, 36% as moderate and only 20% as liberal (Gallup 10/09). This in spite of decades of liberal bias in the majority of news people consume.

What would these numbers look like if the tables were turned? If there had been a significant long-term conservative bias in the news media?

Well, the gap between conservatives and liberals would certainly be larger than it is now (20%). How much larger would be speculation, but if you only added 10% to the conservative number and deducted only 10% from the liberal number, the gap would grow to 26% and have a major impact on any liberals chance of being elected outside of their traditional strongholds (NYC, SF, etc.).

In the end, a conservative bias would force the Democrat Party to be a centrist party - not a bastion for far-left ideology like it is now - and move this country significantly to right.

Lastly, this outcome would eliminate the mainstream media acting as a public relations firm for the Democrat Party. In fact, they'd be doing that for Republicans. This, in and of itself, would largely doom Democrats in any national election.

Too bad it's only a dream... a very unrealistic dream.

Great post! Never thought of it from that perspective - we would own them.

I've never thought about what impact a conservative bias would have on this country. Man, it would be a great. I'm going to try to dream about it tonight.

Hope I don't have that hotel room nightmare about Pelosi again.

It's fun to dream, but I've never read anything more unrealistic in my life. I would sooner find myself hit by Jupiter than for this to occur.

For this to become reality, the journalism curriculum at every major university would need to be scrapped. They might actually have to include history, finance, economics, and some science.
